The sound of Miyake is essentially composed of 3 straightforward rhythm patterns. Therefore it is relatively easy to pick up the basics in a very short space of time. The unique side on stance used in Miyake means that not only will you learn a new piece, you’ll also get a 90-minute workout thrown in too.

A festival taiko song that unites!

At 5.30pm on Saturday 6th July, taiko players from all over the UK will join together to play a taiko festival piece called “Ei Ja Nai Ka?”, composed by PJ Hirabayashi (Artistic Director Emeritus of San Jose Taiko), Ei Ja Nai Ka literally means, “Isn’t it good?” in Japanese.

This has never been done before in the UK, and we’re hoping for over 50 players to take part.  There will performances or ‘outbursts’ of Ei Ja Nai Ka? throughout the weekend,so why not join the Ei Ja Nai Ka? workshop that introduces the taiko rhythms and dance on Saturday morning, so there’s no excuse not to get on your feet and join in the fun!  Come and celebrate…isn’t it good?!
