The 8th UK Taiko Festival will be held in Exeter from the 29th June – 1st July 2012. We are looking forward to bringing together the ever-growing UK taiko community as well as growing numbers of taiko fans and players from Europe and beyond. This will be an exciting three days of inspirational taiko performances and workshops.
There will be two concerts in Exeter's fabulour Northcott Theatre. "A Feast of Taiko" with an emphasis on younger players, including some special guests from a certain American university group, will take place on Friday 29th June. That will be followed by a concert featuring two major UK groups on Saturday 30th June. Invitations to UK-based youth groups will be issued shortly - let us know if you would like to receive one.
Applications will open shortly for groups wishing to play in the outdoor events on Saturday and Sunday. As for the last two years, Sundays performances will be in the relatively informal setting of the Quay. We're planning to move the Saturday performances to Piazza Terracina, which is just across the river from the Quay. There'll be a large, raised and covered stage for a two-and-a-half hour free show. Applications to perform here are welcome from all groups, wherever you might be based.
